Accomodation

Milton College HomestayThere is a range of accommodation options for students in Sydney. Staff at Milton College can help students find suitable accommodation. Homestay allows students to stay with an Australian family in their home, giving them the chance to practise their English outside the classroom. Meals are provided and students can experience the warmth of family life while they are away from their home country. Share accommodation is another popular option. Students can share a house or an apartment with fellow students or with native Australians. This is cheaper than homestay and students have to provide their own meals and contribute towards the payment of bills. Milton College has an accommodation noticeboard in the common room, where notices are regularly posted.

Tips in Maximizing Your Homestay Experience

  1. Australian Family
We will find you an Australian family on request. As Australia is a multi-cultural country, we have migrants from different backgrounds, such as Italian, Greek, French or Asian. They all speak English, and it is a great opportunity for you to practise your English.
  2. Host or Guest
The homestay is not a hotel. You are accepted as a family guest so you have to respect their rules. Each family has their own rules. Please listen to your host parents and ask questions if you are unsure.
  3. Special Requests
If you have any special requests or arrangements for food, or if you suffer from allergies, advise the school when you apply for homestay. We will endeavour to find the most suitable homestay for you.
  4. Rules
There are some common rules to note:
    - Please inform your host family if you are not intending to come home for dinner or if there are any other changes to your schedule. They will be worried about you and need to know that you are alright.
    - Please ask your host family if you are allowed to use their computers and telephones.
    - Please respect their home and try to keep your bedroom clean.
    - Ask your host parents if you wish to invite friends over to their house.
    - Some host families do not like people to smoke inside. Please ask them and respect their wishes.
  5. Smile
Smiling is the international language to show your appreciation. Even if you cannot speak English well, don't forget to smile.
  6. Relax
Relax and do not worry too much. It might take a few weeks to get used to your new environment but once you do you'll have a wonderful experience with your new Australian ‘family'.
